We were delighted to accept an invitation to sing at Winchester Cathedral on Saturday 8th October 2011 when we performed ten items at the concert presented by the 80 strong Llanelli Choral Society – directed by their conductor and founderJohn Hywel Williams – who were featured singing some of the great music choruses which they performed with great enthusiasm coupled with intense passion. Featured also was the acclaimed Welsh soprano Adele O’Neill who filled the Cathedral with her wonderful voice.
Our items from the male voice genre were extremely well received by the large audience, and included John Rutter’s arrangement of When the saints go marching in, Dylan Thomas’Sunset Poem (Rev. Eli Jenkins Prayer from Under Milk Wood), Gwahoddiad – the famous hymn revered by all Welsh male voice choirs – which we sung in Welsh in deference to our hosts; (That was VERY popular!). The other items we performed were African Prayer, The Lord Is My Light and the following more secular items: Seventy Six Trombones, Bring Him Home (Les Miserables),She (Chas. Aznavour),Down By The Sally Gardens (arr. Rutter) and we ended with Doris Arnold’s famous arrangement for male voice choirs Love Could I Only Tell Thee.
